New TV Ad: “Love America Enough”

Filed under: Campaign Ads — Austin Cassidy @ 3:57 am

Honestly, I don’t know if this is all that great of an ad. I like that it covers points about government waste and such, but it doesn’t give voters an exciting reason to vote for McCain. It sounds still and the piano music is a little odd.

It would also sound better to end with “I love my country enough to do the right thing. Always. Even if it means making some liberals or Washington fatcats angry.” Or something along those lines. Just a generally stronger close would help a lot.

What do you all think of this spot?

New Radio Ad on Climate Change

Filed under: Campaign Ads — Austin Cassidy @ 10:29 pm

MSNBC has a story about a new McCain radio ad hitting the airwaves in New Hampshire.  It focuses on climate change issues, and might help to win over some of the state’s Republican and Independent voters.  On the flip side, this could be an unpopular stance with some more hard core conservatives, particularly in the Southern primary states.

The following is the text of the ad…

MCCAIN:  “Eight years ago, I hadn’t thought much about climate change.  But the people of New Hampshire had.”

ANNCR: “John McCain talks about climate change.”

MCCAIN: And in every town hall I heard from you that climate change was real and was a serious threat to our environment and national security. I think the time is past when we argue about whether climate change is real or not. We have an obligation to future generations to take action and fix it. Not everyone heard you, but I did.  And since then I’ve worked hard to find free market solutions to the problem because I know like you know:  there’s no problem too tough for the American people to tackle. One of those solutions is to reduce our dependence on foreign oil because it’s not just a greenhouse gas issue; it’s a national security issue. You were right New Hampshire, and I’m glad I listened to you. And I’m still listening.”

“I’m John McCain and I approve this message.”

McCain Advertising Contest?

Filed under: Campaign Ads — Austin Cassidy @ 10:17 pm

Apparently the McCain campaign in New Hampshire is going to open up the process of picking a TV ad and turn it into a bit of a contest that supporters can have some voice in.  This sounds like a great way to get people involved and engaged in the campaign.

From the Nashua Telegraph

When you don’t have a lot of money and are staking all the hopes of your 2008 presidential run upon New Hampshire, it’s time to get local and creative.

That’s just what GOP hopeful John McCain, R-Ariz. intends to do with a first-of-its-kind contest involving local marketing executives to devise the best TV commercial for the holiday-shopping voter.
