Florida Newspapers Back McCain

Filed under: Campaign News, Endorsement — Austin Cassidy @ 8:55 pm

Now that the campaign is turning to Florida, it looks like that state’s newspapers are turning on to the John McCain message.

Florida newspapers are issuing their endorsements in the presidential primary race, and the big winners are John McCain and Barack Obama.  The Tampa Tribune became the first major paper to issue endorsements last week, picking the two senators in their respective races.

This morning, the Palm Beach Post, Orlando Sentinel and Gainesville Sun all went for McCain!!

It’s A Clean Sweep in NH!

Filed under: Editorial / Opinion, Campaign News, Endorsement — Austin Cassidy @ 4:08 pm

John McCain recieved the endorsement of the Nashua Telegraph today, wrapping up a clean sweep of newspaper endorsements that shames Mitt Romney by a margin of 26-0 in the Granite State.

And the major national papers are taking notice of this renewed interest, see this story from the NY Times

The string of newspaper endorsements just continued to role in for Senator John McCain, getting the nod on Sunday of the Nashua Telegraph, the 26th newspaper in the region to endorse his candidacy.

Normally, newspaper endorsements have only limited value, encouraging supporters and getting voters to perhaps give a candidate another look. But Mr. McCain’s sweep of the New Hampshire area newspapers is something altogether different.

Mitt Romney, leading in the most recent polls in the state, has scored zero endorsements.

Ohio House Leader’s Endorsement…

Filed under: Campaign News, Endorsement — Austin Cassidy @ 3:33 pm

Calling him “the man who should be president,” Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted threw his support behind underdog Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Wednesday.

Husted, a Dayton area Republican, said he has spent the past six months giving all the candidates for the GOP nomination a shot, but eventually came back to the judgment that McCain is best positioned to both win Ohio and to lead the country.

Two More Endorsements!

Filed under: Endorsement — Austin Cassidy @ 5:33 pm

The Portsmouth Herald, one of the largest newspapers in New Hampshire, has jumped onto the McCain bandwagon and made their endorsement public…

John McCain has been leading the country from his seat in the U.S. Senate for 20 years. He is a man of integrity and honor who would help the Republicans rid themselves of the stench of Jack Abramoff and other lobbyists and allow the GOP to reclaim its status as the party of fiscal restraint. He is a strong military man prepared from day one to defend our nation against its enemies. Of all the Republicans running, he is by far the best qualified to lead our country.

We hope voters in the Republican primary will support John McCain.

Additionally, Senator Joe Lieberman is now planning to endorse McCain on Monday in New Hampshire.   Lieberman is a popular independent who was the Democratic nominee for Vice-President in 2000 and has since largely broken with his party, being re-elected to his seat in 2006 on the “Connecticut for Lieberman” line over a Democratic challenger.

Endorsements Keep Pouring In

In addition to today’s endorsements from the Des Moines Register and the Boston Globe, the New Hampshire Union Leader ran a piece last week on why Senator McCain would make a great President.

I thought this quote was a particularly on-point quote so I decided to share it here:

Of all the candidates for President, it was John McCain and only John McCain who not only opposed Donald Rumsfeld’s Iraq strategy from the start but offered a viable alternative for winning that ill-fated war. When the Democrats cried “Retreat!” and other Republicans shouted “Stay the course!” McCain listened to the commanders on the ground.

He discerned the path to victory early, and only after the President finally did what McCain had urged for years did the tide begin to turn in our favor.

That is the kind of judgment America needs in the oval office.

McCain Endorsed by Union-Leader

Filed under: Endorsement — Austin Cassidy @ 5:29 pm

Today the New Hampshire Union-Leader endorsed Senator John McCain for President.  This should provide the McCain campaign with a major boost in momentum in that state as well as a lot of national attention.  People are starting to see that McCain is back in this race and he’s in to WIN!

Here’s the text of their endorsement

On Jan. 8, New Hampshire Republicans will make one of the most important choices for their party and nation in the history of our presidential primary. Their choice ought to be John McCain.

We don’t agree with him on every issue. We disagree with him strongly on campaign finance reform. What is most compelling about McCain, however, is that his record, his character, and his courage show him to be the most trustworthy, competent, and conservative of all those seeking the nomination. Simply put, McCain can be trusted to make informed decisions based on the best interests of his country, come hell or high water.

Competence, courage, and conviction are enormously important for our next President to possess. No one has a better understanding of U.S. interests and dangers right now than does McCain. He was right on the mistakes made by the Bush administration in prosecuting the Islamic terrorist war in Iraq and he is being proved right on the way forward both there and worldwide.

McCain is pro-life. Always has been. He fights against special-interest and pork-barrel spending, and high spending in general, which ticks off liberals and many in the GOP who have wallowed at the public trough. Yet he also has the proven ability, unique among the contenders, to work across the political divide that has led our government into petty bickering when important problems need to be solved.

We have known John McCain for many years. We will write more about him in the days ahead. For now, we leave you with this to ponder:

When McCain was shot down and taken prisoner by the North Vietnamese, he was repeatedly beaten. When his captors discovered that his father was a top U.S. admiral, they ordered him released for propaganda purposes. But McCain refused, insisting that longer-held prisoners be released before him. So they beat him some more. He never gave in then, and he won’t give in to our enemies now.

John McCain is the man to lead America.

John Lehman Endorses McCain

Filed under: Endorsement — Austin Cassidy @ 10:22 pm

More great news and momentum as yet another big endorsement comes to Senator McCain’s camp.  The news keeps getting better and better!

From the Business Journal of Phoenix…

Former U.S. Navy Secretary and 9/11 Commission member John Lehman has endorsed Arizona Sen. John McCain’s White House bid.

Lehman also is chairman of J.F. Lehman & Co., a private equity firm.

The endorsement comes a day after former 9/11 Chairman and ex-New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean announced his support for McCain.

A new CNN poll in New Hampshire shows McCain in second place among Republican presidential contenders with 18 percent of the vote. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads the pack with 33 percent. Anti-war Texas Congressman Ron Paul garnered 8 percent. The survey polled 400 GOP voters in the state.
